Istanbul Technical University (ITU), founded in 1773, is one of the world’s oldest and most distinguished technical universities. As a leader in engineering, architecture, and the sciences, ITU has made a global impact through its strong international collaborations and EU-funded projects.

Its researchers employ interdisciplinary approaches, collaborating with European partners to drive societal and technological transformations.

As a founding member of the European Engineering Learning Innovation and Science Alliance (EELISA), ITU is at the forefront of reshaping engineering education. EELISA aims to redefine engineering with a focus on social and environmental responsibility by uniting technical universities across Europe. This initiative allows ITU students to earn the prestigious “EELISA Engineer” designation, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and cross-cultural engagement. ITU is also deeply committed to research and development, reflected in its expanding portfolio of projects. Between 2018 and 2024, ITU successfully implemented hundreds of national and international projects supported by TÜBİTAK, Horizon Europe, and other public or private institutions. For example: In 2024 alone, ITU carried out 675 projects supported by TÜBİTAK and other funding agencies. Additionally, ITU completed 446 R&D projects in collaboration with public and private institutions in the same year. These achievements highlight ITU’s growing role as a center for innovation and collaboration on both national and global scales.

ITU’s international connections are further strengthened by partnerships with over 200 universities worldwide, offering dual-degree programs, student exchanges, and collaborative research opportunities. Additionally, ITU’s memberships in prestigious networks such as the European University Association (EUA), CESAER, and the Association of Technical Universities (ATU) solidify its position as a leading institution in global academia.
