EULean_SusMan

ISTANBUL TECHNİCAL UNIVERSITY TO HOST JEAN MONNET MODULE FOR 3 YEARS

The EULean_SusMan (European Leadership for Sustainability Management) project that aims to enhance leadership capacities in sustainability management through innovative educational and research activities. The project focuses on addressing critical aspects of sustainability, aligning with the European Green Deal and broader EU policies, and fostering cooperation between academic institutions, industry, and policymakers.

EULean_SusMan seeks to integrate sustainability-focused content into ITU's curriculum while providing students and academics with comprehensive knowledge and tools to tackle global environmental challenges. Over the course of three years, the project will deliver tailored educational programs, including courses and training modules, utilizing participatory and innovative learning techniques such as case studies, role-playing, and scenario-based modeling. These efforts aim to develop a deeper understanding of sustainability leadership among participants and prepare them for the complexities of managing environmental and economic priorities.

The project also aims to strengthen the EU dimension within ITU's academic framework by focusing on topics such as the EU Green Deal, decarbonization strategies, compliance, circular economy practices, and sustainable supply chain management. Bachelor’s degree students will have the opportunity to explore the EU's role as a global leader in sustainability, its historical evolution, and its strategies for addressing climate change and sustainability management.

In addition too its academic components, EULean_SusMan will host seminars that bring together students, academics, industry representatives, and policymakers. These events will foster dialogue between stakeholders involved in sustainability and international trade, enabling the exchange of knowledge and best practices. Such activities will not only promote awareness of the EU's sustainability management policies but also enhance collaboration between academia and the private and public sectors.

EULean_SusMan's rationale lies in the growing interest among students and professionals in sustainability and EU affairs. As global challenges like climate change, resource depletion, and economic inequality cannot be addressed from a purely local perspective, it is essential for university students to gain insights into the EU’s sustainability policies and their impact on global systems. By fostering this understanding, the project seeks to equip participants with the skills and competencies required to lead sustainable transformations in their respective fields.

The project will contribute to several key priorities, including increasing student engagement with EU-related topics, enhancing ITU's capacity to teach sustainability management within an EU framework, and strengthening cooperation with international partners. By the end of the three-year implementation period, EULean_SusMan will deliver a range of outputs, including educational toolkits, evaluation reports, and seminars, benefiting a wide audience beyond the academic community.

The expected outcomes of the EULean_SusMan project are multifaceted. Students will gain professional knowledge and leadership skills in sustainability management, while ITU will expand its educational offerings and deepen international collaborations. Moreover, the project will foster dialogue between academia, industry, and policymakers, contributing to a more comprehensive approach to sustainability leadership. Ultimately, EULean_SusMan will have a lasting impact by preparing future leaders to address the challenges of sustainability and align with the priorities of the European Green Deal.
